| Other Details: | Montgomery's Hill Vineyard is situated on the Hassell Highway 15 kilometres east of Albany, WA. It is bordered by the Kalgan river, and has north facing slopes ideal for premium grape production. The land title was one of the earliest titles surveyed in the area, and was granted to George Cheyne in 1831. It was bought by Charles Montgomery in 1923, and has now passed to the third generation of Montgomerys associated with the land. The land was originally an orchard; now Murray and Pam Montgomery, and Iain and Joan Montgomery are the foundation partners in this new enterprise of producing wine. The planting of vines commenced in 1996 with Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. In 1997 Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot were also planted. There are currently about 10 hectares of vines and in 2001 the vineyard produced about 80 tons of grapes. |
