| Other Details: | Mason Wines is a family owned boutique estate winery. The idea first arose from a discussion on a long haul flight in 1996 "Why are no premium wines made in Queensland?" We moved to the Gold Coast and attempted to grow several varieties on our Hinterland acreage to no avail. These vines were removed when we established our first vineyard at Rees Road in Ballandean. Our Second vineyard and cellar door/cafe are at Glen Aplin at 27850 New England Hwy' We presently have 70 acres under vine. Varieties are Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot,Chardonnay,Verdelho, Viognier, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. When the economic environment indicates other varieties will also be planted. We produce our wines from our grapes alone. We also sell our grapes to other Queensland producers. Initially while working on the viticulture all our grapes were sold. We have gradually been increasing our own production over the last three years and have begun to enter Australian Wine Shows. Our wines have received many awards and have also been received well by the public. The sites for our Rees Road and Booth Lane vineyards were chosen because they had a history of premium stonefruit production which we believed was a good indicator that wine grapes would also flourish in the micro environment. |
